“The Civil Society Initiative In Blue Nile State – Sudan Calls for Immediate Ceasefire and Protection of Civilians”
The Civil Society Initiative In Blue Nile has called on all the conflict parties to immediately cease hostilities without preconditions, stressing the urgent need to end the suffering of civilians who continue to bear the brunt of the ongoing war.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Damazin, the initiative said the humanitarian and security situation in the Blue Nile region has reached catastrophic levels, amid a growing number of displaced and stranded people and severe shortages of food, medicine, drinking water, and shelter, particularly with the onset of the rainy season.
The initiative appealed to the regional and international communities to intensify efforts and exert pressure to protect civilians, ensure the delivery of humanitarian assistance, and establish safe corridors for those affected by the conflict, especially in the border areas of southern Blue Nile.
It also expressed deep concern over reported violations against civilians, including arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, and targeting based on identity or appearance. The initiative called for respect for citizens’ rights and adherence to the rule of law.
The statement further noted that Sudan is facing escalating humanitarian, economic, and security challenges, emphasizing that resolving the crisis requires an end to the war and a renewed commitment to peace.
The initiative urged the Sudanese people and civil forces to unite and work collectively to stop the war and alleviate the suffering of citizens before conditions deteriorate further and the country faces deeper instability.
