“A drone strike targeted the Al-Hamidiyah IDPS Camp in Zalingei – Central Darfur, and attacks on aid convoys have sparked condemnations and warnings of potential war crimes”

On the morning of Monday, April 27, Al-Hamidiyah Camp, Block Four—in the city of Zalingei – Central Darfur, was hit by a drone attack attributed to the Sudanese army. The strike injured three internally displaced persons, who sustained varying degrees of wounds and were transferred to Zalingei Hospital. It also destroyed residential homes inside the camp, causing widespread panic among women and children.

On April 24, humanitarian aid convoys were also targeted, including those carrying food, medicine, and shelter supplies. Markets and medical centers were struck as well, in what represents a dangerous escalation that threatens civilian lives and obstructs the delivery of relief assistance. These violations constitute a serious breach of international humanitarian law and amount to war crimes that require immediate accountability.

The General Coordination of Displaced Persons and Refugee Camps strongly condemns these attacks in the strongest terms and warns against the continued targeting of civilians and humanitarian infrastructure, given the direct threat this poses to the lives of displaced people.

The Coordination also calls on the United Nations, the African Union, and human rights and humanitarian organizations to take urgent action to protect civilians, ensure the delivery of aid, and initiate an independent international investigation to hold those responsible accountable.
The continued international silence is exacerbating the humanitarian catastrophe, while displaced people in Sudan remain in urgent need of protection and human dignity.
