“Administrative Sheikh Assassinated in Qarsila, Central Darfur”
An administrative community leader, Sheikh Mohamed Ismail Ahmed, known as “Lamba,” was shot dead on the evening of March 8, 2026 in the town of Qarsila, Central Darfur, after unidentified gunmen opened fire near his home.
According to eyewitnesses from the area who spoke to Sudan Sawa Sawa, the incident occurred at around 9:30 p.m. in the Bosna neighborhood, west of Wadi Sonqi. Armed men riding a motorcycle reportedly opened fire on Sheikh Mohamed Ismail while he was near his residence, killing him instantly.
The deceased was considered one of the prominent traditional leaders in the region. He served as an administrative sheikh of the Fur tribe and as deputy to the umda (local tribal chief) of Qarsila. He was also widely known for his social role in resolving community disputes and contributing to the work of the traditional administration.
He left behind two wives and seven children.
Residents of the neighborhood said that such incidents are not the first of their kind in the area, reflecting the ongoing security challenges facing parts of the Darfur region.
