“Engineering Creativity from the Heart of Displacement: El-Tayeb Adam Musa Turns Simplicity into Beauty”
March 30, 2026
In a scene that reflects determination and a spirit of innovation, engineer and designer El-Tayeb Adam Musa, one of the sons of El-Fasher in North Darfur—continues his professional journey despite the hardships of displacement. Forced to leave his hometown, he has settled in the Tawila area of North Darfur in the Borqo neighborhood.
El-Tayeb’s passion for engineering began at an early age. Influenced by his father, who worked in architecture, he accompanied him to construction sites as early as 2005. This exposure allowed him to gain hands-on experience and refine his design talent. Since then, he has focused on developing his skills in producing engineering drawings, particularly in architectural interior and decorative design.
He emphasizes that architecture is not merely about ready-made templates or repetitive designs but rather a reflection of people’s environment and way of thinking. He stresses that true creativity in engineering stems from the ability to adapt to surrounding conditions, not just from the availability of resources.
In a practical example of this philosophy, El-Tayeb built his home in Tawila using simple local materials such as green bricks, clay mortar, and red sand. Relying on traditional tools, he created a model that blends authenticity with innovation while remaining suited to the local climate and environment.
While he acknowledges that advances in engineering have significantly improved infrastructure, El-Tayeb calls on fellow engineers not to rely solely on imported or ready-made designs. Instead, he urges them to develop innovative solutions that respect the unique characteristics of each region, especially in the face of ongoing societal challenges.
His story stands as an inspiring example for young people, demonstrating that creativity can emerge even under the most difficult circumstances and that true engineering begins with understanding reality and striving to improve it.
